Ram Jack west commercial case study

Retaining Wall Installation in Newport, Oregon

Scope of work

Situation: Ram Jack West received a call from a repeat customer about severe erosion on the backside of a hotel property in Newport, Oregon. The back lawn area was slowly sliding downhill towards the beach 70 feet below.

Solution: Ram Jack West designed and installed a 45 foot long retaining wall to stop the soil from eroding downhill. The (8) H-piles were installed with a SP15 sonic side grip hammer averaging 20 feet deep imbedded and only 2 feet exposed on the downhill side. Steel plates were then driven in between the H-piles to contain the soil with a cosmetic pressure treated lumber cap. The wall was cut to match the existing grade so the owner could fill the erosion area back in with top soil to create a sturdy flat lawn area as there once was.

Results: The retaining wall was fully installed in 5 days without interrupting the hotel's normal business operations. The hotel now has a stable back lawn area despite sitting on higher elevation of about 70 feet. The owner is pleased with the completed installation and will continue using Ram Jack West for future repair needs.
