Ram Jack west commercial case study

22 Soldier Pile Retaining Wall Installed to Prevent Sliding

Scope of work

Timing: Spring 2023

Situation: The owner of this Coos Bay home contacted Ram Jack West for slope stability protection. The owner was impacted by a recent slide that caused the bordering hill to build 4 feet up his home’s siding. The homeowner was concerned about continued slides caused by erosion and wanted a permanent solution.

Solution: Ram Jack West installed a ~150 foot retaining wall with a total of 22 soldier piles drilled 16-18 deep depending on the exposed height. The first step was coordinating pile layout and placing the wall, which was a joint effort between engineering and the property owner. During the process, there were about 40 yards of silty sandy soils removed and hauled off. During the soldier pile setting, the team used about 28 yards of concrete with tremie tube methods due to interfering water tables. The project took roughly one week to complete.

Results: This repair and retaining wall installation prevents any future slide to push soils into the house or onto his property. The owner was very thankful to have Ram Jack West lead the project and perform the work, mentioning Ram Jack West's professionalism and excellent communication. The owner also stated they look forward to using Ram Jack West for future projects!
